Template driven websites

author Posted by: fredometro on date Jul 31st, 2008 | filed Filed under: Webmaster

i’m pretty proud of my two new websites:

http://www.alternative-energy.1cyu.com
and
http://www.lemon-law.1cyu.com

The template works quite well and now it is very fast to setup any new website on any subject. Just have to find good articles, rss feeds and modify the setup file.
Looking forward to build more and more niche websites…

Free webservices for link exchange

author Posted by: admin on date Jul 15th, 2008 | filed Filed under: Webmaster

So I have at this point my websites created and submitted to search engines. Three most important, Google, MSN and Yahoo.
Others like Altavista or AllTheWeb are using Yahoo database so I just need to check if Im’there.
I still need to improve my skills in keywords optimization, but let’s leave this apart for the moment, because I feel now the priority is for link building.
So, for a start here are a couple of website where I can find fellow webmasters willing to exchange links with me. Most are free, although there is a paid service behind.

- Linkmetro.com: http://www.linkmetro.com

- HitMaid: http://www.hitmaid.com

- Link Market: http://www.linkmarket.net The site works the same as an online shop: Browse thru categories or dô a search for sites. Add them to your shopping cart and when finished, go to shopping cart to request the links. Simple and fun, it works well. 5 links a day for the free service.

- GotLinks.com: http://www.gotlinks.com

- Link Exchange: http://www.linkexchanged.com

- EZLinkSystem.com: http://www.ezlinksystem.com

- Link Diary: http://www.linkdiary.com

- BRL: http://www.build-reciprocal-links.com They are not free for sites with page rank less than 3 apparently. My sites are too young so I’ll need to pay to be included.

- LinksJunk: http://www.linksjunk.com Free plan allows 5 links per day. Code snippet is in fact a whole page to be created.

- TedallSearch: http://www.tedallsearch.com Very nice site and easy to set up links. Unfortunately still very few members to link with.

- SurfWebTips: http://www.surfwebtips.com Very easy and quick setup of links. The webpage is not very nice but the system is very fast and simple.

- LinkTradeExchange: http://www.linktradeexchange.com Still waiting for email confirmation. I will retry later, maybe I mistyped the address.

- Free Link Exchange: http://www.free-link-exchange.biz Complete manual system. No real subscription, you have to submit a ticket and wait for your site to be approved.

- LinksPro: http://www.linkspro.com Tedious registration process. I did not even find any category for my games site www.gamespot.1cyu.com

- SmartSubmission: http://www.smartsubmission.com Has a 90 days trial so I joined. It needs a code snippet.

- Small Business Link Exchange: http://www.linkubator.ws 47 members only today! It will be growing. Code snippet has to be installed on your site.

- LinkPro: http://www.linkpro.org Original, you get 5 links from other sites thru a code snippet.

- ALE5: http://www.ale5.com Free link exchange. Will see in a few months, as they don’t accept sites with a pagerank lower than 2. None of my sites are ranked yet, so…

I decided not to go further with this review because it mainly adds poos wuality links on my websites, which don’t need to link to affiliate or MLMs.When it is not the case, most of the sites added are not relevant to the subject of my own site, in the end having a ‘directory’ page, which I dont need.

Webpage design: Frame or array?

author Posted by: fredometro on date Jul 9th, 2008 | filed Filed under: Webmaster

I just finished two websites than have frames. Thinking it would present a nice interface to the visitor, the sites have a nice left bar and a top bar that don’t scroll while rolling the mouse wheel. A menu on the left allows to change the main text.

This is nice but the method has a big disadvantage, SEO speaking. The sites have many ‘main body’ pages and there are all indexed in Google. Unfortunately when ‘googling’ and finding one of these pages prevents from viewing the other pages of the site, as there is no menu displayed. The left bar menu is on the main page containing the frame and therefore no menu is shown.

An alternative would have to provide a link on the top saying: “If you landed here, click to go to the main page of the site”. Or simply a “Homepage” link.

I don’t like it that way, so I decided to rewrite the sites, using an array instead of the frame. It will eventually take a lot more time than inserting the ‘Homepage’ link, but will be more profitable in the long term. The search engines will provide all pages with a top bar and a left menu, and the visitor will have a better feeling than landing on the ‘unframed’ text pages.
